Priest lost to Coast

Rugby league in Canterbury will be the poorer when the Rev. Fr W. G. Middleton begins his new appointment, as the parish priest of Ngahere early next month. Fr Middleton played for the Marist-Western Suburbs club and in more recent years has held the positions of president of the Canterbury schoolboys’ board of control and chairman of the Canterbury Rugby League Supporters Club.

His appearance in the 1957 national Marist Easter tournament at Wellington was notable on two counts. He won the award for the best sportsman but also had the misfortune to break a leg in the match against Auckland. While on the West Coast Fr Middleton intends to continue his association with the code.
