The United States dollar staged a recovery in heavy trading on Europe’s foreign exchange markets yesterday, Associated Press reported. » It rose particularly sharply against the German mark. In Frankfurt the dollar opened at 3.2115 marks, up from 3.2060 at yesterday”s close and finished the day at 3.2200.

It also strengthened against the Dutch guilder, to close at 3.2060—up by 0.85 Dutch cent. In Zurich the dollar rose against the Swiss franc by 1.75 centimes to 3.8750, and in London the dollar opened at 38.5 British pence and closed at 38.7 pence. Dealers attributed the rise mainly, to operators taking profits ’ after two days of busy speculative activity.
