JOCKEY WARNED
(N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON. Soon after the. turn in the Rimutaka Handicap at Trentham on Saturday, the favourite, Point Duty, was held up when the two leaders, Myree and Hyfort, weakened. The film confirmed that there was no interference. Near the six furlongs In the Watkins Handicap, Vigour (B. S. Dodds) was forced to give ground when Shut (A. T. Jones) drifted several places. Jones said Shut reacted unkindly in the ground when horses improved on the outside. Soon after in the same race Lucky Rebel (J. T. Anderson) began to give ground, and in spite of being hard ridden was unable to respond. Anderson said Lucks’ Rebel refused to gallop kindly and did not show any dash. Official observations confirmed that Lucky Rebel was ridden out reasonably. At the straight entrance in the Watkins Handicap, Mr Fagan (D. A. Raklander) dived in when hit with the whip. At the time Raklander was trying for a gap on the inside of Bed Crest. When Mr Fagan came In Roganne was forced on to Recharge, which in turn checked Vigour. Vigour was seriously hindered, but a contributing factor was that Vigour had been forced on to the heels of the weakening Aqua Pura. It was decided that no charge was warranted, but Raklander was shown a film of the incident and warned to exercise greater care in such circumstances in the future. Rohe Potae <R. J. Skelton) had to be eased down the back straight in the Awatea Handicap. , , Skelton said that no particular horse or rider were at fault, but just that the field had packed up. Rohe Potae made considerable ground near the three furlongs, and was in a challenging position on the turn. However, the horse attempted to run in under pressure, and Skelton was not able to ride it out. Bright Blend Succeeds (N.Z. Press Assn. — Copyright) ADELAIDE.
