EASY WIN TO TABAK
Buller Road Cycling (From Our Own Reporter) WESTPORT. Riding off scratch, T. J. Tabak (Avon) took the lead 10 miles from the finish of the Buller 100-mile road cycling race yesterday, and went on for an easy win from G. R. Sword, also of the Avon club, and I. D. McLean (Papanui), both off 17min. Next were D. B. Hewson and M. J. Hewson (Timaru), E. G. Harwood (Avon), and R. J. Hogan (Papanui). R. S. Merry was eighth, and was the first Westport rider to finish. The rest of the field was well strung out. J. S. Danielson (Papanui) and D. A. Comparini (Nelson), the two other scratch riders, withdrew early because of mechanical trouble. Tabak. obviously, took fastest time with 4hr 26min 28sec. The colts’ event, 50 miles from Reefton to Westport, was won by P. Sincock (Rangiora), off 9min, with B. Day (Rangiora) second, and J. Drummond (Westport) third. Both the latter were off 12min. Sincock took fastest time: 2hr 15min 28sec.
