Substitute Garage

(Bp STELLA BRUCE) Every now and then you can see them around—coloured plastic roofs held by slim steel rods, giving cars protection from the weather. They have been coming up like mushrooms since houseowners discovered that there is a great deal of sense in the car port idea and that it has many advantages over the conventional garage. It gives you instant access to the car, saves fumbling with garage doors and takes

up less room. Keeping the car protected is only one of the car port’s many uses. If it is extended along the side of the house, It can shelter playing children, keep the washing dry, house garden equipment and furniture, even act as a sun-porch. Local authorities are getting used to the new idea as long as the arrangement conforms to their regulations. But some of the more luridcoloured plastic still worries them a little.

Sunshine yellow are first choice with most people. Natural pearl is second, followed by pink, green and blue. The latest plastic roofing is fire-proof and surprisingly strong.

The vital question is: can a j husband construct one? I must answer that in most cases he would be well advised not to try.

A car port may look simple, but there are up to 93 components in the simplest model, and it is well worth while persuading him to let professional constructors do the job.
