Christchurch Arrival Soon

The new British Trade Com missioner in the South Islani Mr J. R. Bolton, will arrive at Christchurch on Thursday He succeeds Mr P. C. Burdett, who is returning to Britain. Mr Bolton, who is 51, was educated at Windsor GrammaSchool, and the Chelsea College of Science and Technology. His first post was LC.I. s agricultural research station at Jealott’s Hill. In 1936 he joined the Palestine Police Force and in 1939 was trans ferred to the Health Department, Government of Palestine.

He spent most of the war years in Palestine on the Supplies Control Board at Haifa, latterly as executive secretary. He was attached to the Control Commission in Germany until 1951, when he joined the Board of Trade.

He became a member of the Trade Commissioner service in 1954, serving as an assistant trade commissioner at Sydney and at Johannesburg; as Trade Commissioner in Wsetern Nigeria; and, immediately before his posting i to Christchurch, as first secretary (economic) at Accra, i Ghana.

Mr Bolton is married, and his wife and nine-year-old daughter will be joining him in Christchurch in about three months. He also has three adult sons, who will not be coming to New Zealand.
