Suspected Arson

Inquiries are being made by detectives at Darfield and in Christchurch into a fire which destroyed 3000 bales of lucerne and a hay shed on the Halkett farm of Mr V. P. Fogarty on Sunday evening. Two other fires broke out in gorse road boundary hedges not far from the farm. All the fires occurred between 8 p.m. and 8.45 p.m.

The Kirwee Volunteer Fire Brigade and the Paparua County Council fire tender were called out. The hedge fires were put out before they caused much damage.
