DELAY ON WORKS

Complaint By Timaru (From Our Own Reporter) TIMARU, July 25. A notice of motion by the Mayor of Timaru (Mr D. R. Dowell) that the council conveys to the Prime Minister (Mr Holyoake) and the Minister of Agriculture (Mr Talboys) its concern over the continued delay by the Government in implementing its promise to authorise the use of meat reserve funds to assist in financing a farmerowned and controlled co-oper-ative fertiliser works in South Canterbury, was carried at the monthly meeting of the Timaru City Council last evening. "We are Interfering in a matter which is not our concern,” said Cr. P. W. J. Cockerill. “Why become a mouthpiece for Mid and South Canterbury, and North Otago people in a farming enterprise from which our citizens in no way can gain any benefit?” he said. “The farmers were offered something, and it is right that the town should support the farmers,” said the Mayor.
