Freyberg Rules Unaltered
The management committee of the New Zealand Golf Association has decided not to change the rules and composition of the Freyberg Rosebowl tournament.
At a recent meeting the committee decided not to adopt any of four alternatives to the present system of 12 teams containing six players each playing six matches each. The alternatives were brought forward to the meeting by Mr C. J. Ward (Christchurch), a delegate to the New Zealand Golf Council. Mr Ward’s alternatives were:— Fourteen teams each of five players. Fourteen teams of six players, play to be by three-ball matches, each team to play 10 other teams.
Fifteen teams each of six players, three - ball matches, each team to play 10 others.
Fifteen teams of sax players, three-ball matches, each team to play 12 matches; nine teams to play 12 different teams, four to play 11 different teams and repeat one match, two to play 10 different teams and repeat two matches.
After discussing these alternatives, the management committee agreed that it did not favour altering the present conditions.
However, the committee decided to delete rule 8 for the conduct of the tournament and substitute:
“Points shall be scored as follows: For a win by a team 1 point; for a halved match, I point.
“Individual games finishing all square shall not be continued. In the event of a tie the winner shall be the team with the largest total of individual games, halved games counting as a half game. Should this fail to determine the tie, the teams shall be joint holders.”
