FORECAST TO MIDNIGHT Situation.— A marked ridge of high pressure extends across New Zealand from an anti-cyclone near the Chatham Islands. A depression over the south Tasman Sea is moving eastwards. Forecast: Canterbury.—North-easterlies predominating, fresh on exposed parts of the coast, but some fresh north-westerlies developing in parts of western Canterbury; scattered cloudy areas about the coast morning and night; otherwise fine with frosts and rising day temperatures. Outlook: cloud increasing. Nelson and Marlborough.—Fresh northerlies developing in exposed parts of Cook Strait, elsewhere winds light to moderate and variable; scattered patches of cloud night and morning, but mainly fine with frosts and moderate afternoon temperatures. Outlook: cloud increasing, with scattered rain developing later about Nelson and northern Marlborough. Buller and Westland.—North easterlies predominating, fresh later in exposed positions: cloud increasing from the south; scattered light rain developing during the day; moderate temperatures.
