Bellition Third At Moonee Valley

MELBOURNE. The Dunedin-owned three-year-old filly, Bellition. carried the top-weight of 8-13 into third place in the 10-fur-long Healesville Handicap at Moonee Valley on Saturday. The race was won by the 5/4 favourite Heroic Sand, which won by two lengths and a half from Unrivalled. Bellition was a head back.
Bellition, which opened in the betting at 7/2 and drifted to sevens before starting at
11/2, took the lead at the half-mile from the early pacemaker, the New Zealand-bred Mission.
Heroic Sand was always handy and proved too strong for the New Zealander over the final two furlongs. It was Bellition's second run in Australia. She previously finished fifth over a mile at Flemington on July 9. Bellition’s stablemate. Ski, disappointed in the Flowerfield Handicap (13 furlongs) and could do no better than eighth in the 16-horse field. Ski, who started at 6/1 after an opening quote of threes, moved up from tenth to sixth at the half-mile, but could not improve further.
The race was won by the nine-year-old Sullivan which finished two lengths and a half ahead of Jonks with Hot Sun two lengths away third.
