Mine Blast Kills 7

Seven men were killed yesterday when an explosion ripped through a soft coalmine near this southern West Virginia community. The explosion, believed caused by methane gas, occurred in the siltix mine of the New Biver Company, about two miles from the mine entrance.
The company president, Mr William L. Haslam, said 21 men were working in the mine when the explosion occurred. Nine of them were in the immediate blast area but two escaped. Two bodies were brought out.
Protest Rejected.—The United States rejected yesterday a Soviet protest against United States bombing at Haiphong.—Washington, July 24.
