RACING Mukupai Favoured At Awapuni

"The Press" Special Service PALMERSTON NORTH. Mukupai remains a firm fancy for today’s Winter Cup Trial at Awapuni. The track is puggy, which will suit the topweight perhaps better than any of his rivals.

Since his fine third in the Whyte Handicap at Trentham, Mukupai has done well in training. K. A. Aitken, his rider, is confident he will run well.

Le Plus and Summer Flight remain the most dangerous rivals. Both should run boldly, with Corina perhaps the best of the remainder. Recharge has come to prominence as a leading contender for the Tararua Plate since racing prominently at Levin on Wednesday. His showing there was a more impressive trial than Lady Wild’s final gallop at Awapuni on Thursday and it now appears likely that he will beat the mare in the second leg of the double. Lady Wild retains some fa vour and is regarded is a likely placegetter, with Leno man perhaps the best of the others.
