ROGANNE CUP FANCY
tf The Press” Special Service AUCKLAND. Form points clearly to Roganne, Craddock and Bright Chief in the Paeroa Cup, the first leg of the T.A.B. double at Te Aroha to- . day. It will be a big surprise ! if one of the others is successful, except for Anne Lane ■ all have raced poorly. Winter meetings at Te Aroha are unusual. This one ’ is because the Ohinemuri Jockey Club’s course at Pae- ; roa is unfit for racing. The Paeroa track was cut badly at the Maramarua Hunt ' meeting on June 29, the second full day’s racing at Paeroa since the course was rebuilt. The Te Aroha Jockey Club’s meetings are held during the spring, summer and autumn when the going usually is good. This time the footing will be soft. Roganne, Craddock and Bright Chief prefer soft ground and manage heavy going well. All have raced consistently through the winter for a total of seven firsts and eight minor placings. Wonderbar, Blue Baron and Master Defence are the form candidates for the second leg, the Stewards’ Handicap. Wonderbar was impressive in a last-start win at Avondale, so was Blue Baron when he won at Matamata last Saturday. The presence of Red Crest In the field makes the Stewards’ Handicap an added attraction. Red Crest will resume racing after a spell. He won the last Wellington Cup and has siince been campaigned unsuccessfully in Australia.
