Change To Decimals (N.Z. Press Association/ WELLINGTON, July 22. More people were beginning to understand decimal currency and appreciate the reasons for the change over, the chairman of the Decimal Currency Board (Mr S. L. Moses) said today. He was commenting on a public opinion poll held in Auckland and Christchurch recently. There was a 20 per cent increase in the number of people who knew the year and month of the change and answered correctly the basic unit that would be used in the new currency and how many cents were in a dollar, Mr Moses said. Thirty per cent knew the value of individual coins, and between 50 and 70 per cent could convert pence to cents. Sixty per cent of those interviewed favoured the change and 19 per cent did not think it desirable. The previous survey had shown that 30 per cent opposed the change. Intermediate Entries Because it has had so many applications for entry of children from non-contributing schools (those not in its district), the Linwood Intermediate School has asked for the Canterbury Education Board’s guidance. Yesterday it was agreed that such applications should be made to the board in the first instance.
