Bird in a semi-final In Timaru last night and dashed South Island hopes in the 1*64 men’s open squash racket championship. It was a fine exhibition. Bird and Johnston occupied the court for 46 minutes and more squash shots were seen In one game from them than from the entire four games from the other pair. The top-eeeded D. Burmeister eliminated P. Dibley. of Auckland, in a 58-minute game to produce an all-Palmerston North final. B Grade Championship.—Semifinals: G. Lynch (Palmerston North) beat R. P. Clarke (Palmerston North). 6-3, 10-8, 2-9, 4-9. 9-2; M. M. Jones (Lower Hutt) beat S. P. O’Dwyer (Henderson). 7-9. 9-6. 9-4, 9-7. C Grade Championship.—Semifinals: M. G. Richards (Timaru) beat K. S. McDonald (Lower Hutt). 9-0. 9-7. 5-9, 9-7; R. Riggs (Papatoetoe) beat E. R. Morris (Christchurch), 9-7, 4-9. 9-2 9-3. D Grade.—Semi-finals: B. J. Kennedy (Christchurch) beat B.
