MAIN NORTH ROAD

Progress On Widening A four-lane highway between the Styx bridge and Winters road would be open to holiday traffic over the Christmas and New Year holiday period, said the resident engineer for the Ministry of Works (Mr W. A. Scott). Mr Scott said the carriageway now under reconstruction would be completed but the median covering and new lighting would still have to be finished. So far, more than half the widening work between the bridge and Winters road has been completed. Between the bridge and Daniels road, a new four-lane carriageway with parking space on each side is open. Between Daniels road and Winters road excavation of the eastern side has almost been completed. About third o” the stretch has a new base course and top course of hot asphalt. When completed the section will have a 15 foot median strip with turning bays at intersections.
