Deadlock In U.S; (N Z P A -Reuter —Copyright > WASHINGTON, July 22. The president of the striking Machinists’ Union, Mr Roy Siemiller, said yesterday that he saw no hope for a quick settlement of the twoweek airlines strike which is costing the country millions of dollars and untold inconvenience to travellers. Mr Siemiller, who became involved in the deadlocked negotiations for the first time yesterday, said he could not argue with estimates that the strike against five major airlines could last as long as another two weeks. “1 have not been informed of any change in the carriers’ position that would buy an agreement,” he said.

Scientific Co-operation.— The Soviet Union and North i Vietnam have signed a new I agreement for an expansion :of scientific co-operation. I—Moscow, July 22.
