Fine Trial At Hastings
"The Press" Special Servic* HASTINGS.
Mephisto. Redalre and Bold Effort, which will contest maiden class at the Manawatu Hunt meeting and the Winter Cup Trial pair. Pursuit and Mossburn, worked well at Hastings yesterday when the course proper was soft and cutting out. Mossburn (B. S. Dodds) and Pursuit (R. Saxon) ran seven furlongs. Mossburn finished two lengths clear In Imin 37sec, the last three in 42sec, and relished the going. He could race well tomorrow. Mephisto (A. T. Jones) and Chaumont (K. Cullen) ran half a mile in 54sec, the last three furlongs in 41 3-ssec. Mephisto is fit and ready for a good race, but Chaumont could need the run. - Redalre (Dodds) and Chev. (Hercock) took 54 3-ssec for half a mile, the last three in 41 2-ssec. Redaire is taking a long time to confirm earlier promise, but is fit. Damar (T. Whittington) ran half a mile in 53 2-ssec. the last three In 41 2-ssec. He lost his appetite at Trentham and then banged his head on a railing, which upset him for a time. Bold Effort (K. Cullen), which could race well at Awapuni, and Maintown (T. Wnittlngton), ran three furlongs. Bold Effort was three-quarters of a length ahead in 39 2-ssec.
