INOFFENSIVE

Signs reading “Baisweil County Welcomes Safe Road-Users” will be erected on major roads leading into Baisweil County, the council decided last evening. The sign would be less offensive than “Speed Limits Rigidly Enforced” said Cr. B. J. A. Lynch. Such a sign might result in more co-operation, said the chairman (Mr J. Y. Pethig) and there was always the traffic officer to back it up.

The original proposal was for “Baisweil Welcomes Safe Motorists,” but the council felt it should be obvious the notice also applied to cyclists, pedestrians and others. It was decided to add the word “County” as the notice would also appear on the state highway near Motukarara, at the county boundary, which was some distance from Baisweil itself.
