Mrs C. D. Newton has been awarded a gold service badge for her service to the C.W.I. movement

She joined the Burwood C.W.I. in 1947 and was appointed secretary at the annual meeting in 1948, an office she held for four years. Since then she has held all other offices and at present is a committee member and choir leader. Mrs Newton was a member of the Canterbury federation executive for two years and when the Canterbury East Federation was formed she was elected president, an office she held for four years. She was appointed to the Dominion executive in 1962.

As a voluntary organiser she founded the Spenserville institute, which is today a flourishing body. While a member of the district federation she was a representative on the National Council of Women, the Pan Pacific and South-east Asia Women’s Association, the Save the Children Fund, and the social committee of the Aged Peoples’ Welfare Council.
