£l600 Left To Charities
Charitable bequests totalling £l6OO have been made under the will of Orpah Elsie Norton, a spinster, of Christchurch, probate of which has been granted in the Supreme Court.
Miss Norton, who died on July 3, has made bequests of £5OO each to the Cancer Campaign Society (Canterbury division), the Methodist Eventide Home, Christchurch, and the Mission to Lepers, and a bequest of £lOO to the Young Women’s Christian Association, Christchurch.
Navy League Dance.—Riccarton House was decorated with dried New Zealand flora painted in white and gold for a dance Jield by the Canterbury Branch of the Navy League of New Zealand last evening for the ship’s company of the visiting British submarine, H.M.S. Tabard, Thirty members of the Tabart’s company attended with their partners.
Writers’ Competition.—Results of the Christmas story competition, held by the Christchurch Writers’ Association and judged by Mr B. Hill, are—Rosemary Britten 1, lole Clarke 2, Anne Mulcock 3.
