W.D.F.F. Activities

Members from 28 branches of the Women’s Division of Federated Farmers were welcomed to the recent provincial meeting by the president of the Canterbury executive (Mrs W. T. R. Rowe). The meeting recorded with regret the recent death of Mrs T. M. Watson, the immediate Dominion past president. The August provincial meeting will be held at West Melton when conference reports will be discussed.

A report from Te Kiteroa, a rest and holiday home, said £450 was raised at a garden party, the money would be used for improvements at the home.

Branch reports.— Avonhead: The branch has

invited the executive and all interested members to a special day on October 19. The guest speaker will be Mrs Schroeder, until recently international officer of the Associated Country Women of the World in the Pacific area. Hororata: Members of several branches attended the 36th birthday party of the branch. Miss D. Ballagh sang a bracket of songs. Members performed sketches and plays, and gifts and trophies were presented. Harewood: The branch entertained members of the executive and other branches at its birthday party recently. Prizes won for work during the year were presented. A special feature of the entertainment was a selection of mimes performed by members. Yaldhurst: Members have continued to visit the sick. Four members recently visited the Hornby Convalescent Home where one of the patients celebrated his 90th birthday. The president (Mrs T. A. Crawford) gave him a box of fruit and sweets. Boon Hay: Members have given bed socks and woollen quilts to Templeton Hospital, tea cosies to Te Kiteroa, a W.D.F.F. rest home, and biscuits to the Salvation Army’s men’s home.
