Archbishop Elected

(N.Z. Press Assn.—Copyright) SYDNEY, July 21. The Sydney Anglican Synod early today elected Bishop M. L. Loane as its new Archbishop. He received a clear majority in a secret preferential ballot of more than 600 clergy and laity. The other two nominees for the post were the New Zealand-born Dr. S. B. Babbase, and Canon L. L. Morris.

Bishop Loane, aged 54, who will be consecrated Archbishop of Sydney’s St Andrew’s Cathedral soon on a date to be fixed, has been a coadjutor Bishop of Sydney since 1958.

Principal of Moore Theological College from 1954 to 1958 he is an author of many books and has travelled widely for the Church Missionary Society through South-east Asia, Latin America and Africa.
