FORECAST TO MIDNIGHT Situation.—An anti-cyclone is centred over the South Tasman Sea and a cold southerly airstream over New Zealand. Forecast; Canterbury.—Fresh south-westerlies in a few exposed parts of the coast; winds elsewhere light to moderate and variable; cloudy areas near the coast, with a few areas of light rain at first; fine inland; cold. Marlborough Sounds and Kaikoura coast.— Southerlies, fresh in Cook Strait, mainly moderate elsewhere; cloudy, with areas of light rain; patches of rain persisting but partly cloudy weather developing in most places during the day; cold.
