‘No Other Market Like Britain’
(Naw Iceland Press Association) DARGAVILLE, July 20. There was no other market in the world which could take the volume of trade from New Zealand which Britain did, the DeputyPrime Minister (Mr Marshall) said yesterday.
It was essential to understand that New Zealand was dependent on the British market, and that New Zealand should continue to trade with Britain, he said. There had been a suggestion that New Zealand could gradually develop trade with other countries instead of Britain, but no other market In the world could take the volume from New Zealand. However, it was important that New Zealand should be constantly searching for new
markets and the (Mvnratfieation of its trade; Mr Marshall said. A drive towards thia bad been going on for the last five years. Market for meat and dairy products had been opening up in countries thoughout the world, particularly in South-east Asia, and in some European countries. South Africa the Middle East, and the West Indies, be said. “This is the kind of situation that will give confidence to the New Zealand Harmer,” Mr Manhail said.
