THIEVES ACTIVE
Police Warn Visitors
Visitors to Christchurch for the Lions match on Saturday should take particular care in looking after their cars, personal possessions and cash, the local crime prevention officer (Detective-Sergeant E. J. Stackhouse) said yesterday. “Thieves are particularly active in Christchurch at present,” he said, “and thefts from cars, flats, hotels, and houses are reported daily. “Visitors for the big match may well have their pleasure spoiled if they give thieves an opportunity by being careless. “Cars should be locked, and valuables removed from them when parked if this is possible. Possessions should not be left lying in parked cars so that they are within sight of passers-by. “Visitors are strongly advised not to leave cash or valuable personal possessions in hotel rooms. They should lock their hotel rooms when they are going out. “Professional thieves regard big occasions as happy hunting times. Common-sense care can save visitors having their stay in the city marred by losing valuable possessions,” Detective-Sergeant Stackhouse said.
