Jugoslav Miners

(N.Z. Press Association) INVERCARGILL, July 20. A second group of Jugoslav hard-rock miners arrived at West Arm today for work on the £l5 million Manapouri underground powerhouse contract. The second group, numbering 18, brings to 35 the number of Jugoslavs so far employed at West Arm. At least another 15 are due in New Zealand within the next few weeks, but their arrival date has not been confirmed. The Utah Construction and Mining Company, contractors for the powerhouse, hired the miners in Belgrade after recruiting campaigns throughout New Zealand, Australia and Britain failed to turn up sufficient skilled underground men.
