UNDER-23 SOCCER
Canterbury One Player Canterbury has only one player, the Christchurch City right-half, A. Gowans, in the New Zealand under-23 soccer team to play the touring Hong Kong side, Sing Tao, at Auckland on August 14. The team, announced in Wellington yesterday, is:— K. Harlock (Waikato); R. Little (Waikato), W. Hunter (Auckland); A. Gowans (Canterbury), D. Strom (Wellington), B. Boomer (Otago); J. Legge (Auckland), G. Lamont (Auckland), E. Thomas (Waikato), M. Burgess (Auckland), B. Leuchske (Auckland). The reserves are: I. Siebert (Auckland), G. Lake (Auckland), D. Gendall (Wellington). Last year’s national under--23 goal-keeper, O. Nuttridge, of Canterbury, has failed to gain a place in either the team or the reserves. He has been replaced by Harlock, who had an outstanding game in the North Island trial, and Siebert has been selected as the reserve goalkeeper. Another surprise is the omission Of the Canterbury captain, T. Conley.
