BRIDGE DOWN

Trucks In River (N.Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND, July 20. A bridge collapsed at Kuaotunu while two Coromandel County Council trucks were passing over it today. As the trucks plunged into the river below, the driver of one, Mr L. Young, managed to jump clear. A passenger, Mr G. Coddingham, and the driver of the other truck, Mr H. Connor, were also unhurt. A bulldozer driver ran for safety when tons of rubble fell from above him while clearing a slip on the Kuaotiinu hills this afternoon. He is Roger McNeil, aged 21, of Coromandel. The force of the slip swept the bulldozer to the edge of a 200 ft cliff. The county overseer at Coromandel, Mr M. J. Pennefather, said the road would be blocked for at least two weeks.
