TOWN HALL FINANCE
Contribution By Paparua The rural district of the Paparua county was already making a contribution fo the Christchurch Town Hall, said Mr D. H. Warren, chairman of the Paparua County Council, yesterday. On a house basis the Paparua rural area was paying the equivalent of the amount paid by an average house in the metropolitan area of Christchurch, Mr Warren said. The contribution was expected to continue throughout the 30 to 40 years during which the cost of the Town Haii would be met. Mr Warren’s comment was prompted by a leading article in “The Press” in support of the appeal by Town Hall Promotion and the chairman of the City Council’s town hall committee (Cr. H. G. Hay) to country residents to support the Town Hall. His comment was made 1° ensure that the rural residents of Paparua were aware that they were making what the council considered an equitable contribution, Mr Warren said. “The basis on which they are paying could be attractive to other rural communities not contributing at present,” he added.
