Earthworks Damaged

<N.t. Press Association) AUCKLAND, July 18. Motor-cyclists have cut earth and grass from some of the historic Maori earthworks on Mount Mangere, Auckland, during a series of scrambles across the mountain. After inspecting the earthworks, the chairman of the Mount Mangere Domain Board (Mr A. L. Meurant) said the damage, mostly to pits dug by the Maoris more than 200 years ago, would be repaired. “The board gave authority to the motor-cyclists to hold their motocross on the mountain and intended to tell them to stay clear of the earthworks,” he said. “Unfortunately they were not told and their course was laid right through them. This wiM not happen again.”
