Brighton Has Good Win Over Rebels

Brighton A gave a fine team dieplay to convincingly beat Rebels A In the women’s Indoor basketball competition on Monday night. Rex A, second In the competition, also had another big victory over Ranglora A. Y Girle snatched a last-min-ute victory over University, which had led for all of the game. In the other senior game Stars 1 A and Teachers’ College drew. Results: —Brighton 33, Rebels 11; Rex 33. Ranglora 9; Stare 14, Teacher®’ College 14; Y Girls 14, University 23; Checkers a byo. University v. V Girls University fielded its top combination after several weeks of not being at top strength, and from the outset looked more dangerous on attack. Some fine passing movements were completed with successful shots, and University took an early lead. Y Girls were quick to capitalise on any loose passes, and this kept them well in the game. Good anticipation by M. Neiman and J. Partridge swung play in Y Girls favour, but CL McGregor put University back in the lead with accurate penalty shots. Fine shots by S. Taylor and J. Goulden gave their side what appeared a comfortable lead, but some determined play by M. Coulson and M. Neiman gave Y Girls the incentive needed, and a goal in the lest minute of play gave Y Girls a one-point victory. Top soorervt J. Goulden 11. S. Taylor I (University), M. Neiman I, If. Coulson I (Y Girle). Rex v. Ranglora Although winning by a largo margin, Rex was not extended, and did not display its customary good shooting. Play was sometimes rather ragged. Ross 9. Stars v. Teachers’ CoUega A draw was a fair indication of the trend of play when Stan mot Teachers’ College in the early game. College took an early lead after some good interceptions and retrieving by M. Alabaster and D. Andrews. College maintained this lead mainly through its speed to the loose ball, but mishandling and inaccurate shooting by both teams kept the score low. Determined play by L. Bobson and M.
