W. Baker’s Plans
"The Pr«»s" Special Service AUCKLAND. W. Baker, who has enjoyed some success as an amateur trainer, intends to train professionally next season. Most of Ms team will be raced by members of the Baker family. In 18 months as an amateur trainer, Baker has had 10 wins. Among Ms winners have been the fine trotter, Light Oak, and Roseland Bing. Boseland Ring to back In work at the family’s private training establishment, Ascot Park, Mangere. He has shown no sign at the soreness that troubled him for more than a year and caused him to be put out of training last October. Both forelegs were affected during the 1963-84 season when he was five. Roseland Bing had four wins three seconds and a third in successive races and looked sure to reach a tight mark. The ranks of better-class pacers in the Auckland district are very thin after the sale <Sf many horses to the United States and Roseland Ring would need oMy to keep sound to have a fine chance of a successful comeback. Light Oak resumed work about a fortnight ago. She looks In grand heart. Nurse Brigade, Otara Boy and Shortland are also back in training. Among the rising two-year-oids handled by Baker is a colt by Garrison Hanover from Sandra Kay. He was the toppriced lot at 1650gns at the yearling sales at Addington and is owned by Baker’s father, Mr H. Baker. The colt is making excellent progress, according to Baker, and it is planned to race him early in the new season.
