Skylit Fit For Levin
"The Press” Special Service HASTINGS. The Manawatu candidates. Skylit and Mossburn, drew attention to their prospects with good gallops at Hastings yesterday and on Monday. Tinsel and Sebastian indicated that they would also be prominent in their respective events at Levin. Rain at Hastings made the going yesterday soft both on the plough and the course proper. On Monday, Tinsel (R. B. Marsh) ran three furlongs easily in 43 2-ssec, after a round and a half of pacework. She will make her open-company debut at Levin and is poised for a bold effort. Sebastian (R. Grantham) ran a round of pacework, then ran at half pace to the three and sprinted from there in 41 2-ssec. Sebastian could be a big threat in the 11-furlong Tiro Tiro Handicap. He has been shaping as if he needed a middle-dis-tance race. On the plough yesterday Mossburn (B. S. Dodds), which may not be out of his depth in the Winter Cup Trial at Awapuni on Saturday, and Paper Kiwi (J. T. Anderson), which continues to make excellent progress, ran six furlongs in Imin 19 4-ssec, the last three in 39 4-ssec. On the course proper. the Hautere Hack Handicap runner. Skylit (Sellwood), and Bondi (Sutherland) ran half a mile in 52 3-ssec, the last three in 40sec. This was a smart trial on soft ground. Skylit, a laststart maiden winner, may be hard to beat this week.
