RACING DUNRAVEN LEVIN PROSPECT TODAY
"Th* Pres*” Special Service
PALMERSTON NORTH.
On form, the Stewards’ Handicap at Levin today should be a three-horse race, with Dunraven, Master Defence and Summer Flight fighting out the finish.
The others in the second leg of the double seem to have little chance of beating this trio. Dunraven followed an easy second-day win at Trentham with a third placing there on the final day. He actually finished fourth, but Master Defence, the winner, was relegated to fourth and Dunraven moved up one place in the reshuffle of placings.
Earlier, Dunraven’s form had been extremely sound and even with 9-2 he should run another bold race.
Master Defence ran a good race for a close sixth on the first day at Trentham and was at extremely long odds, considering that run, when first past the post on the final day.
He is most consistent when in form and can handle any sort of winter going. He beat a miith stronger field than this at Trentham on the final day only to have the placing taken from him.
Summer Flight has raced over middle distances lately and has even been schooled for a hurdling career, but has proved a speedy sprinter in the past and could easily revert to this medium successfully.
He was a last-start second over 11 furlongs at Hastings. The first leg of the double is the Hatuma Lime Handicap, in which Big Bill could return to form after two disappointing runs at Trentham. His form earlier was good and he was obviously not suited by the holding ground at Trentham. Today's soft course should suit him much better. The improving Flounce and Royal Polo could prove stern opposition for him, as could Laramie if he is sufficiently recovered from a festered hoof.
