SEVEN LEFT IN CHATHAM CUP
New Zealand’s major soccer competition, the Chatham Cup, is slowly reaching its boiling point, with seven survivors from the record entry of 93.
One of the South Island finalists has been found—St. Kilda. of Dunedin, which won its zone final by outplaying Invercargill Thistle, 4-1. For the second successive year St Kilda will carry
Dunedin’s colours. Last season it beat Christchurch City, 1-0, in the South Island final at Dunedin, and then went down. 1-3, to Eastern Suburbs, Auckland, in the national final at Wellington. This year St Hilda will have to travel for the South Island final, to Christchurch; or Nelson. Its opponent will be either Western, the Can-, terbury qualifier, or Nelson Rangers, who meet in their; zone final at Nelson on July 30. The South Island final is scheduled to be played on August 13 but if Western
beats Nelson Rangers, the Canterbury Football Association is endeavouring to play the match at English Park on August 20. Permission to change the date is being sought from the N.Z.F.A.
N.I Semi-Finalists The four North Island semi-finalists have been found and their matches are due to be played on Saturday with the North Island final at Auckland on August 20. The Auckland provincial final will be between Eastern Suburbs, the Chatham Cup holder, and Ponsonby, while' the Wellington qualifier, | Mirimar Rangers, will meet; Moturoa (New Plymouth). ' The national final will be at the Basin Reserve, Wei- 1 lington. on September 3. ;
