JAZY TO CHALLENGE
Mile Race With Ryun (NZP. A.-Reuter—Copyright)
PARIS. The French runner, M. Jazy, yesterday challenged the new world mile record-holder, J. Ryun. to a race later this year. Ryun, an American college student, took the world record from Jazy when he clocked 3min 51.3sec—2.3sec better than the Frenchman’s time—in California on Sunday. Jazy said: “Ryun’s time does not surprise me. When I set my world record I could have done 3min 52sec if everything had gone as planned. “I’m ready to meet Ryun after the European championships in Budapest. At that time I should be in top form.
“I’m sure that both of us could break 3min 51sec if we are leading as far as the bell and are left alone on the last lap.”
