VIEWS OF TEACHERS
Expression Defended (N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, July 19. The right of school teachers tn express public opinions on controversial Issues was supported today by the president of the Wellington branch of the New Zealand Educational Institute (Dr. D. B. Barrowman) after the questioning of this right in Parliament this week. “Our branch believes that teachers have the right of the private individual to free expression of opinion and to participate in activities relevant to their beliefs,” said Mr Barrowman. “It is understood that when a teacher wishes to publicise his opinions in support of controversial issues he does so as a private person,” he said.
