Lions As Riders

(New Zealand Press Association)

WESTPORT. The Welsh centre, D. K. Jones, was thrown from a horse just outside Westport yesterday, but he was not injured. Jones, with five other members of the Lions* team, went for a ride up Sergeant’s Hill, five miles from Westport. Just after passing over a bridge Jones’s horse shied at an obstacle on the side of the road and quickly turned. Jones ended on the seat of his pants on the metalled highway, much to the amusement of his team-mates. Another Welshman, A. E. I. Pask, had his most frightening experience as his mount came on to a

bridge. The animal decided it did not like the company of the numerous cameramen, and promptly turned and bolted back down the road. It took Pask and an assistant some minutes to bring the horse under control.

The leader of the party was M. J. Campbell-Lam-erton, the captain of the tourists and an experienced horseman. Campbell-Lamerton was very proud of his horse, Calypso, a former New Zealand representative show jumper. He said: "It Is not bad to be In control of a New Zealand representative for a change.”
