Chinese Diplomat To Leave Holland

(N.Z. Press Association—Copyright) THE HAGUE, July 20. China’s Charge d’Affaires in Holland Mr Li En-chiu, has been ordered to leave the country within 24 hours, it was officially announced in The Hague early today.

Mr Li En-chiu’s expulsion is in connexion with the mysterious death of a Chinese technician attending a Congress in Holland, United Press International said. The Communists were accused of spiriting the previ-ously-injured technician from a hospital where he had been brought for treatment on Saturday. A Foreign Ministry communique said the unidentified technician was found injured in front of a Hague mansion rented by China. No Explanation There was no immediate explanation how the technician was injured or If he was attempting to seek political asylum. The Injured man was "brought by The Hague municipal health authorities ambulance to the local Red Cross hospital, where doctors diagnosed a skull fracture and serious injury to the spinal column.” A number of other Chinese lifted the patient from the stretcher, without the physician’s knowledge, and carried him through the main gate to a diplomatic corps car which was standing there, the communique continued. The patient was apparently taken to the office of the

Chinese Charge d’Affaires which enjoys diplomatic immunity and is not accessible to Dutch authorities, the Ministeries claimed. Twice Summoned The Charge d'Affaires was twice summoned to the Foreign Ministry and asked for an explanation. Yesterday, the Charge d’Affaires reported that the engineer had died in his office on Sunday afternoon, the statement said. The Public Prosecutor had ordered a preliminary inquiry. The Ministries did not name the Chinese engineer. Holland recognised the Peking Government in 1950 and agreed to exchange - charge d’affaires in 1954. Mr Li En-chiu has been Charge d’Affaires in Holland since August 7, 1963.
