Fines totalling £3O, and disqualification from driving for six months, were impdsed on Thomas Albert Brown, aged 47, a painter and paperhanger, by Mr H. J. Evans, S.M., in the Magistrate’s Court yesterday. Brown, who did not appear, was charged with failing to comply with traffic lights on June 2 and failing to stop after an accident on the same date. He was convicted and fined £lO on the charge of failing to comply with traffic lights, and was convicted and fined £2O and disqualified from driving for six months, on the other charge. He was also ordered to pay witnesses’s expenses of £4. Mrs Eileen Millie Morgan said that she had been travelling towards the city in Linwood avenue, and stopped for the traffic lights at the intersection with Buckleys road and Aidwins road. When the lights changed to green she moved off, and a car appeared in front of her. This car struck the witness’s car, but did not stop.

Bisman braked to avoid a collision, and heard a bang, but did not know if it was his car or Mrs Morgan’s that had been hit. The car driven by Brown did not stop, but continued along Aidwins road.
Bisman estimated the speed of Brown’s car through the intersection at about 40 miles an hour. In a 'statement which was given to the traffic department, Brown said that the traffic lights were In his favour when he went through the intersection. He felt a bump, but thought it was a pothole in the road. He did not know a collision had occurred. The Magistrate said that he accepted the evidence that had been given in court on oath.
