Fire Razes Home

(N.Z. Press Association) NELSON, July 18. A father of six carried his daughter through smoke and flames as fire raged through their home at Dehra Doon, Riwaka, at midday today. The fire destroyed the seven-room house and only a few effects were saved. Mr Lindsay Fowler, who only a short time before had arrived home from work, rushed into the house as his 10-year-old daughter, Vonda, raised the alarm from her bedroom. The chief fire officer of the Motueka Volunteer Fire Brigade, Mr A. W. Stuart, said it was believed that the blaze was caused by a pan of fat on an electric stove.
