RANDOM REMINDER

LOVE STORY

One of the most satisfactory ages is that which permits attendance at an intermediate school. Left behind are the puling primary school days. Still in the distance are the interrogatory sessions with the Department of Education’s dread organisation, S.C.U.E. At an intermediate school, one can feel a man, yet have freedom from most of man's responsibilities. So it was that two young intermediate school gentlemen sat together in a far corner of the school grounds to discuss what

was ailing the world—things like the Lions and homework and suchlike—and Inevitably the conversation took in the television programmes presented by the N.Z.B.C. Just as inevitably, a nostalgic reference to "The Avengers" was made by one of the young men. The other said, deep from the heart: “Don’t mention Emma Peel's name!” What then but to say those sweet sounds— Emma Peel, Emma Peel, Emma Peel—over and over again until the sufferer leaped to his feet

It was a startling spectacle. Twice our young hero jumped high In the air, his legs kicking with some of the energy but none of the grace of Nijinsky, and then he set off at his highest speed on a complete circuit of the school grounds. When he returned, he dropped at his friend's feet and said, simply and sadly: “I love Emma Peel." Funny, there are about four of us at home who share his tender feeling with him. But the boys of course are too young really to know. ~.
