Leaders Show Strength In Moderate Trading

Leaders were more actively traded and showed strength as New Zealand stock markets continued last week’s firming trend at the opening of the week. Rises outnumbered falls by more than two to one, and the undertone was very steady.

New Zealand Breweries at 13s 6d, Fletcher at 19s 6d, General Foods at 16s 4d and New Zealand Forest Products at 24s 5d each advanced Id. 6d gains were recorded by Wright Stephenson at 325, Dunlop at 35s 6d and Golden Bay at 13s 9d. Rothmans rose 9d to 26s 9d in Dunedin sales; Alliance at 9s 8d ex dividend and Tasman at 56s 6d were marked up, 3d each.

Wellington Publishing lost Is to 20s. Other falls were small. Hay’s fell 3d to 18s and Farmers Fertiliser 3d to 375. Falls of Id each were chalked up by A.B. Consolidated, D.1.C., J. Wattie and Woolforths.
