Swimming Honours.—American swimmers beat the Soviet Union on Sunday in the only event this year of the politics* ftlagued Soviet-American athetic programme. The Americans with a squad of IS swimmers, won XI of the 17 events. In spite of the American triumph, the big thrills of the two-bay meeting came from two Russian girls. G. ProsumenshChikova, aged Ifi, who set a new record in the 100-metre event, and I. Posdnyakova. who set the world record time of 7:43.0 for the 220 metres breaststroke. Duke's Polo Success.—The Duke of Edinburgh led his Windsor Park polo team to a 13-0 victory against Cowdray Perk yesterdav in the final of the Gold Cup. top award of the English season. The Duke of Edinburgh, who played back, did not score.
Classic to Nichols.—B. Nichols shot a one-under-par 70 to win the 100.000 dollars Minnesota golf classic at St. Paul yesterday. Nichols finished with a 14-under-par 270 total, one stroke ahead of J. Schlee. League Test Surprise.—G. Langtands fated to pass a fitness test yesterday and Australia's Rugby League selectors caused a surprise by replacing him with P. Diamond for the third and fin*! test against Britain next Saturday. Also out is the full-back and champion goal kicker. K. Barnes, with a knee Injury. He has been replaced by L. Johns. Yacht Race.—Tour yachts In the Bermuda-Skagen yacht race, Challenge, Circe, Good News, and Ondine, reached Skagen late on Saturday night and early on Sunday morning.
