VICTORIA PARK

Timber Trees 9 Cutting While the timber, pole and post market was in limited supply, opportunity should be taken to exploit the area of Victoria Park that was accessible, the parks and recreation committee recommended to the City Council last evening. The area was flret and foremost a recreational park and any silvicultural work must be in favour of that and not as a production forest, the committee said. Without question there were several trees that could and should be removed without adversely affecting the park area. The range in size of trees to be removed varied from large sawmill logs to poles and fence posts.

Access was difficult but not impossible, although any extraction of timber would require to be done carefully. Without going into detailed surveys there was the possibility . that if the area was carefully thinned it could yield up to £lOOO.
