REFUSAL BY CANADA

Uranium Sale To France (N.Z. Preu Anocfottoni AUCKLAND. July 18. Canada had refused to sell uranium to France, and. in spite of the close ties between the two countries, did not support the French Government’s decision to undertake nuclear tests in the South Pacific, the Canadian Secretary of State (Miss J. V. LaMarsh) said today. Miss LaMarsh said Canada was against any country’s development of nuclear weapons. Although Canada might not have publically condemned the French action, it certainly did not condone it. “They tried to buy uranium from us. but we would not sell it if it was to be used for nuclear weapon purposes.” said Miss LaMarsh. “I think they eventually got It from Africa or somewhere.”

Submarine Due.— The British submarine. H.M.S. Tabard, is due at Lyttelton at 9 a.m. tomorrow, according [to the Lyttelton Harbour--1 master (Captain A. R. Chamipion). She will leave for Australia next Monday.
