Obituary

MR E. LE GROVE Mr Ernest Le Grove, until recently one of New Zealand’s best known radio newsreaders, died in Wellington on Saturday.

He read the news from 2YA Wellington for 23 years until he retired in March, 1964. Mr Le Grove was also prominent as an amateur theatre producer and was one of the group that developed the Wellington Repertory Society, which he joined in 1937. He worked for the civilian branch of the Navy Office in ’Wellington from 1939 until he retired in 1961.

He took over from Professor James Shelley as 2YA’s newsreader in 1941, on a contract basis. His wife died two years i ago.
