Proposed university courses for naval officers should include studies of South-east Asian cultures, the Australian Governor-General, Lord Casey, said when addressing midshipmen graduates. The Australian Navy was keeping pace with world developments in ships, weapons and facilities, he said. Future naval officers would need a sound tertiary education and the Navy planned to introduce university courses in 1968.
